Solutions in Instructional Methods and Materials

  • Provide clear schedule with checkpoints along the way.
  • Use regular routines and procedures for transitions in class.
  • Give student agenda or schedule for the day.
  • Use timer to define work times.
  • Give student tasks to complete in short periods of time.

Solutions in Assignments and Assessments

Support

  • Place timetable or assignment list on student's desk.
  • Teach student to use paper or electronic calendar or personal planner to track assignments and work.
  • Use reward system to motivate timely assignment completion.
  • Break long-term assignment into parts with correcponding due dates.
  • Reduce length of assignment, or allow more time.
  • Give student extended time for assignments and assessments.
  • At first, give partial credit for late or incomplete assignments, until student is able to complete.
  • Give assignment ahead of time to increase student's time to work on it.
  • Use flexible scheduling, such as summer school, so student has more time to complete a course.

Classroom Tests

  • Give shorter tests more frequently.
  • Give student additional time to take test.
  • Let student take breaks during test period.
  • Break test into sections; let student take test over a period of days if needed.

  • Administer portion of test at specific time of day.
  • Give student extended time to complete test.
