Accommodations in Assignments and Assessments

Group Work

  • Promote active student involvement with questions, small group interaction, discussion, structured responses.

Support

  • Give student access to resources and materials outside of class.

Technology

  • Let student use head pointer or voice- or breath-operated switches with onscreen keyboard.
  • Scan worksheets, forms, or text to make them keyboard accessible.

FCAT

  • Secure papers to work area.
  • Use tabbed or modified pages for easier turning.
  • Check periodically that student is marking in correct spaces.
  • Use writing guides to produce legible answers.
  • Use math grids or guides to orgainze mathematical compputations.
  • Use speech-to-text technology, computer switch, alternative keyboard, pointing device, or other communication devices to indicate answers.
  • Let student dictate responses to proctor or digital or tape recorder.

Accommodations in Learning Environment

  • Use raised desks to accommodate students in wheelchairs.
  • Arrange classroom furniture, equipment, and materials so they are physically accessible and barrier free.
  • Store classroom equipment and supplies in a consistent, predictable manner.
  • Let student work with trained classmate.
  • Let student use physical supports, such as bookends, plastic containers for supplies, and bags or folders for work materials.
  • Let student use learning center with appropriate equipment and materials.

FCAT

  • Let student use adaptive or special furniture to take the test.
  • Allow student increased or decreased opportunities for movement.
  • Administer test in familiar place such as student's home with test proctor and/or familiar person present.
  • Administer test in other specialized setting approved as unique accommodation.
