  • Let student use spell-check or grammar-check or other writing assistance utility in word processing software.
  • Let student use self-checking materials or computer-assisted instruction to practice skills.
  • Let student use spelling dictionary or electronic spelling aid.

Support

  • Let student use references, such as spelling dictionary or thesaurus.
  • Let student use peer editing or teacher help in revision process.
  • Give student two copies of worksheet: draft and final copy.

Classroom Tests

  • Let student give alternate demonstrations of knowledge and skills using oral explanations, role playing, or interviewing.
  • Provide word banks for fill-in-the-blank questions.
  • Grade content and mechanics separately in assignments that require written expression; let student correct spelling or grammar errors.
