Instructions
- Present material in logical manner; use cues to shift from one aspect to next.
- Break complex information into steps or identify key components.
- Provide oral and visual prompts during lecture or discussion about what to include in notes.
- Provide additional examples and non-examples.
- Use modeling and thinking aloud when teaching.
- Use a template to focus attention on one line of text or one column of math problem.
Highlighting
- Highlight important points in text for student.
- Color-code or highlight key words in math word problems.
- Let student use sticky notes, erasable highlighter, or highlighter tape to mark key points in text.
Support
- Have student read review questions first, then find answers.
- Use real-life, concrete materials and manipulatives when introducing abstract ideas.
