The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) consists of individual tests covering word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, arithmetic reasoning, and mathematics knowledge. Scores in these areas determine whether recruits are qualified to enlist in the U.S. military. Other tests in general science, auto and shop information, mechanical comprehension, and electronics information are used in three career exploration score composites for verbal skills, math skills, and science and technical skillsto determine how qualified recruits are for certain military occupational specialties. The battery takes approximately three hours to complete.
